On Friday, April 30, 2021, Ronald Curtis Cameron passed away peacefully in his home. He was 79.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Julie Cameron; his brother Archie Cameron (Anne); his sons Pete Cameron (Nicole) and Jeff Cameron (Tessa); and his grandchildren Mia, Colin, Juliette and Colette.
Ron was born on May 25, 1941 in Annapolis, Maryland, to Byron and Mary Cameron. As a child, his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, where he would spend the rest of his life. As a young boy, Ron fell in love with boating and the water, and would commonly be seen racing through local canals in his Dunphy Pickerel.
Ron graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1959. Shortly out of high school, Ron met Julie. They married on November 23, 1963. Over the next 57 years, Ron and Julie would travel, fly airplanes, ride motorcycles, race in sailing regattas, enjoy boating and fishing, and raise two sons.
Ron was a true family man. He coached nearly every sports team his boys ever played on, led both sons to the rank of Eagle Scout, and rarely missed an event in which his children participated. Ron was very proud that his sons were both third generation Eagle Scouts, following in the footsteps of both he and his father Byron.
As Pete and Nicole, and Jeff and Tessa, both started families, Ron became a proud grandfather, affectionately known as “Pa”. Birthdays and holidays will not be the same without his sweet tooth and his laughter.
Ron loved the City of Fort Lauderdale, volunteering on advisory boards for nearly three decades. He was a business owner and enjoyed his membership in the Executive Association of Fort Lauderdale.
Ron dedicated his life to his wife, his children, and the people around him whom he called friends. Ron was generous, giving and very proud. Ron will be remembered as a happy man in all respects and he will be missed dearly.
