Obituary – Robert Scott Joslin

Robert Scott Joslin, age of 93 passed away (departed on his final cruise) on March 21st in Fort
Lauderdale, FL.

Robert was born into a depression-era household in Indianapolis. After graduation from Broad Ripple
High School he attended Purdue University earning a bachelors degree in pharmacy. During college, he
enrolled in the NROTC and at graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy.
His active service in anti-submarine warfare on a destroyer was followed by more than 3 decades as a
reservist, attaining the rank of Captain. His naval service inspired a life-long interest in foreign policy,
love of the sea, and passion for travel. Following active duty he was readmitted to Purdue and completed
a doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry.

Robert conducted research and became Director of Research at a number of large pharmaceutical
companies, starting out at EIi Lilly in Indianapolis, IN. Career pursuits led to 10 years living in Ft.
Washington, PA and nearly 50 years in Northbrook and Lake Barrington, IL before moving full time in 2019
to what had been a winter home in Ft. Lauderdale. Robert specialized in drug innovation, development and
delivery, earning several patents for drug discoveries. After his corporate roles, he started a
pharmaceutical consulting business specializing in novel drug delivery and executive search. He and his
wife Nancy also created a startup providing pharmaceutical art and novelties to the industry. Both of
these latter pursuits provided him with the opportunity to continue to travel the world in pursuit of his lifelong
passion for knowledge. Robert and Nancy became active cruisers - a pursuit they both loved - and
his joy from a cabin upgrade never diminished.

Robert was always up for a challenge and would wrap his tile on the glass table in satisfaction when he
beat his son in rummy cube. He was also a lifelong student of the investment world and loved to share
investing ideas with his daughter-in law. Helping to organize his affairs in his final months at the local
Chase branch, he was disappointed when the man by the front door (the security guard) couldn’t tell him
more about the 4% money-market rate they were offering. Robert had a quick wit and helped teach his
family the value of humor in life.

A devoted father and grandfather, Robert never tired of providing guidance and love to his family and
community. The former Eagle Scout served as Scoutmaster for a Troop serving a local orphanage, was
active in the Navy League, was a devoted Friend of Bill W., was a naturalist and a philanthropist. He
relished and shared his exploration of the wonders of our world, seeking to inspire others with his
discoveries. His family is eternally grateful for the many cherished memories and lifelong lessons he has
left with us.

Robert is survived by his wife Nancy Korbar-Joslin, his children Jeffrey Joslin (Lou), Mark Joslin (Martha)
and Jennifer Savagian (Andrew) and his grandchildren Connor and Lia Joslin, Logan and Sophia Savagian
and Ingram Smith (Christina).

A family remembrance and service will be held Thursday March 23rdand service at burial at a later date..

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Feeding America.
