Ressie "Jennie" Macke

Ressie Virginia Macke (aka “Jennie”), 76, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away peacefully April 3, 2024, in Singapore after cruising in Southeast Asia.

Jennie was born July 29, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the third of eight children born to Ressie and Clarence Zehnder, and she graduated in 1965 from Boone County High School. She married Doug Macke on September 26, 1970, in Covington, Kentucky, before settling in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1972. Jennie worked for national and local accounting offices. Until her death, she was employed by Amaturo Family Group. She was actively involved in Coral Ridge Junior Woman’s Club, Junior Welfare Society, and the Hundred Club of Broward County, and she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Lighthouse Point Chapter. She also supported many other worthwhile charities in her community and the nation. Jennie’s generous, loving, and nurturing heart brought joy to so many. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Jennie had such a sense of humor, was a great cook, and enjoyed entertaining at home as well as traveling across the USA and abroad with family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Baird Case Funeral Home, 4343 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.

Funeral mass will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Church, 4595 Bayview Drive. Following the mass, there will be a Life Celebration at a private home in Fort Lauderdale. (Details will be distributed at the mass.)

Jennie is preceded in death by both parents and her siblings, Lou Zehnder, Doug Zehnder, Jim Zehnder, Mary Lea Scott, and Catherine Forshee.

Jennie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Doug Macke, her son Drew Macke (Amy Iannello), and her daughter Mandy Macke, along with her three wonderful grandchildren, Madeline, Declan, and Jaxon Macke, her siblings, Pete Zehnder and Dottie Spencer, and by many very special extended family members and friends.

Memorials may be given, in Jennie Macke’s name, to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital – stjude.org.
