Norman Manuel Osborne

Norman Manuel Osborne, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully, at his home on Sunday, October 4th, 2020. Norman was born to Edwin Lewin Osborne and Marianne Williams Osborne on November 3, 1923 in Santiago, Cuba. Norman was the eldest of three children, his brother Randolph L. Osborne, deceased and his sister, Perlita Delores Clarke. He graduated from Kingston Technical School in Jamaica, West Indies. As a teenager, he enjoyed track and field and loved to play cricket. Norman was an avid and enthusiastic batsman who enjoyed his afternoons playing cricket with his teammates at the Progressive Cricket Club. He was known for his gentle temperament, his humor, quick wit, his kindness and his compassionate spirit. Norman had a loving and generous heart and was always giving and concerned about the well-being of others.

Norman worked for the West Indies Sugar Company in Monymusk, Clarendon, West Indies. He was a clerk and dispatcher of transport for many years. During this time, he met and married his beautiful wife, Daphne Perdita Ledgister who was working as a midwife in Lionel Town, Clarendon. Daphne passed away on October 3, 2017. They were happily married for sixty-nine years.

In 1951, his first cousin J.A.G. Smith Jr. invited Norman and Daphne to migrate to London, England to further their education. Norman attended Acton Technical College while working with the General Electric Company as an installer.

Norman and Daphne migrated to Brooklyn, New York in 1955. Their only child, Fiona Faith Osborne was born at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York in 1959. Daphne brought over her nieceVeronia Rose Lewis Warner from Jamaica and adopted her as a big sister for Fiona in November 1961.

Norman and his family attended Good Tidings Gospel Chapel in Brooklyn, New York. Norman was a trustee member from 1972-1981 and served as President of the Trustee Board for many years.

Norman loved learning and education and graduated from York College, N.Y. with his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1974. Norman worked at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, as a supervisor over the hematology department. He retired from the hospital in 1981 and he and Daphne relocated to Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. Norman and Daphne fellowshipped at Bethel Gospel Chapel until his health began to fail.

Norman was a selfless husband and father. He loved serving others, serving his community, and supporting the faithful servants of the Lord. He will be missed for his devotion to his family, the Church, and constantly telling stories about the old days growing up in a hardworking and proud Jamaican family. He spread his sense of family and love to all of his family, where they further cultivated these values in their own young families. His humor is the guiding light towards the personalities he instilled in his wife and daughter as well as shared with all of his family and friends.

Norman is preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Randolph L. Osborne and his wife Daphne P. Osborne. Norman leaves to mourn his passing: his daughter. Fiona F. Osborne, his sister Perlita Delores Clarke, his niece Carole Denise Clarke Rosen, his niece-in-law Veronica Rose Warner, his sisters-in-law Dorothy LaMothe and Janice Little, his cousins, numerous nieces and nephews in-laws, family and friends.

Best dad ever! A life well lived and loved. We will miss you.
