Joaquin Oscar Requena

Joaquin Oscar Requena (Papi) passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones, at Westside Regional in Florida. He was preceded in death by his father: Santa Cruz Requena; Mother: Ana Maria Pena and some loving brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife: Nidia Requena; sons: William Requena (Cheryl), David Requena (Sandra), Oscar Requena (Angie), daughters: Eneida Watson (Lonnie), Denice Vines (Allen); Sisters: Venecia Cole (Bobby), Zaida Requena; Brothers: Julio Requena (Maria), Rene Requena: and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Sharon Heights Baptist Church (520 Bivens Brookside Road Birmingham, AL, 35214) with visitation at 11:00AM until time of the service. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens (4304 Johnson Street Adamsville, AL 35005). Oscar Requena and Victor Urraca will be officiating.

Joaquin was born on May 27, 1938, in La Vega, Dominican Republic.
He went to work for American Bridge Subsidiary of US Steel in 1960. After retirement he went to Bevill Community College and graduated with honors along with his son Oscar. From there hecontinued to work until 1996. Where he moved back to Santiago, Dominican Republic. Then he decided to move to Sunrise, Florida while there he worked for a year as a crossing guard for the Broward County School System.
He loved his wife of 60 years. He loved his children and his family very much. His love for his church was enormous, he worked very hard to help build churches and different missions also.
