Carol Rose Angelo Metevier

January 4, 1942 – August 4, 2022

Carol, 80, a native of Detroit, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2022, surrounded by her family. Carol is survived by her son Francis Joseph Metevier (Joe), her daughter Lynne Metevier Flowers, her son-in-law Michael Flowers, and her grandchildren, Chloe Marie (16), Kennan Joseph (14), Dalton Patrick (12) and Christian Thomas (10). She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith Angelo (Gilbert) and Clarence Angelo, as well as her husband, Thomas Edward Metevier and her infant daughter Laura Anne.

A celebration of Carol’s faith and Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 11am at St Pius X Catholic Church, 2511 N. Ocean Blvd (A1A), Fort Lauderdale, FL 33305. Please join the family “prior” to the funeral mass for a continental breakfast reception in the Parish Hall from 9:15am to 10:45am. Feel free to bring photos and stories to share!

Carol had a strong faith throughout her life. She attended catholic schools for 12 years. She graduated from Ladywood High School at age 16. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Detroit, a Jesuit university, in 1962. It was there she met her future husband and love of her life, Tom. They were married December 1, 1962. They “rode life’s merry-go-round” hand in hand for the next 53 years.

Carol’s family was her top priority. She was proud of her kids’ accomplishments as adults. She loved to travel, especially to Canada and Europe, often with her children. She relished in supporting the sports and activities in which Lynne and Joe participated, and chose to drive huge, 9-12 person vans (in school colors, of course!) so the hockey teams and cheerleading squads always had rides to games and competitions. She loved getting to know her kids’ friends and offered a soft shoulder and a wise word to many special people over the years. If you were fortunate enough to receive that from Carol, you were indeed special.

It was important to her that the people she loved were happy. She was an original empath - she felt people’s troubles and joys deeply, and many have testified to how much she sincerely cared about them as human beings. She received so much pleasure from simple acts of giving, and that’s why her nickname was Christmas Carol for so many years. There are countless people world-wide that have received a small token from her and felt the kindness and warmth of her gaze, conversation or embrace.

She was super creative, and far too modest about her talents. She wasn’t afraid of hard work and supported her family’s academics and extracurricular activities for years by creating and selling stunning, one of a kind Christmas wreaths and other decorations with pinecones. She created 100s and 100s of centerpieces for charitable events over the years and was a prolific bowmaker. For years, Lynne has wrapped the many Christmas bows Carol made for her family in tissue paper to preserve the treasures and pass them down as true heirlooms.

Once her kids entered college, she jumped headlong into the business-woman persona. She followed her mother Edith into real estate. She excelled in the Detroit area. Once she moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1988, she and Edith became a team and then a top producer for 30 years. She developed the iconic branding “Carol Sells the Beach” and her business cards and sales trinkets kept her top of mind in her global network for 40 years.

Carol was a member, contributor, fundraiser and leader in many non-profit organizations, including Redford Suburban League, Redford Theatre Guild, PACE Center for Girls, Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Women’s Council of Realtors, Florida Realtor Association, the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, Women’s Executive Club of Fort Lauderdale and her beloved college sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma.

She loved to play golf. She was a golf champion at each stage of her life: she won a father/daughter tournament at age 12 at Western Golf and Country Club, a league championship in her late 30s and she was the 9-hole senior women’s club champion at the Pompano Beach Golf Course in 2011 at age 69. She was a voracious reader, belonged to book clubs and played a decent hand of Bridge.

She has been called a sage, a dynamo, a legend and a bundle of energy. Many people nicknamed her “sunshine” as she always brought light and warmth when she entered a room. She will be deeply missed by many.
