Anne DePadro Bloom

September 1, 1934 ~ July 21, 2020 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Tribute

Anne DePadro Bloom passed away surrounded by family on July 21, 2020. She held one child’s hand on one arm and one child’s hand on the other. Anne was born in New York City in 1934 and spent her very early years in France until her father moved the family to Chicago to escape World War II. She always spoke of her father with great love and admiration. Anyone that knew her knew her love for ice cream; her father brought a pint of Neapolitan home every night after work. Anne ate the vanilla. After her move to Chicago, she spent most of her childhood and adolescence there. She went on to attend St. Mary’s College. She studied the sciences and was one of the first generations of women to normalize attending college. During her time at St. Mary’s, she met her first husband, Michael A. DePadro, at the University of Notre Dame. Anne and Michael spent a few years in California in the late 1950’s and then moved to Fort Lauderdale where she raised her 6 children and spent the rest of her adult life.

In addition to being a homemaker for 6 children, Anne spent decades as a successful realtor and continued to work in real estate until the time of her passing. Anne was a member of the Lauderdale Yacht Club, she chaired the Easter Lily Ball, volunteered at the Fort Lauderdale Performing Arts Center and held many other charitable roles.

Anne lived a very full life and was a compassionate mother who helped anyone that ever asked her for help. Anne enjoyed traveling and throughout the course of her life managed to travel most of the world. She traveled to China, Egypt, Peru, Israel, Greece; she made it to six of the seven continents. Anne enjoyed the arts and theater. She held season tickets at the Broward Performing Arts Center for years and got to see everything from Hamilton and Dear Evan Hanson to Mary Poppins and operas like Madame Butterfly and Tosca. She lived her life to the fullest throughout the entirety of it; she never slowed no matter how many years passed or setbacks presented themselves. She was a light to all those that met her.

Anne knew Jesus as her Savior, and she attended Church daily at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church. Anne was a founding member of Saint John the Baptist and continued to support and attend the Church throughout her adult life. Anne referred to Christ as her friend. She trusted Christ with the results of her efforts, and her positive outlook on things stemmed from knowing that God had a plan for her life, and that everything would work out in the end. She stood, unshaken, in her faith throughout the entirety of her life.

Anne is survived by her beloved sister Francis, by Dr. Leonard Erdman, by her 6 children from her 27-year marriage to her late husband Michael A. DePadro, by her stepchildren from her late husband, Dr. John Bloom, and by many grandchildren.

Anne was the rock of a large family. We all turned to her in our moments of need, and she welcomed us all with open arms. We miss her dearly already.

Funeral Services will be held at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church on Friday July 24th at 10:00am.
